soil..

it all depends on the tree, the place you keep it, the area you live in, the way you water and firtilise

it's too personal to define.. and everyone uses a different type or composition.

but when looking at professionals, most of them will use akadama, kiryu, bims.. (or simular)

Ok, here's a pic of my tree (go easy!)

As you can see, it's not the finest specimen in the world, and the leaves are huge. I had just left it be, and only lightly pruned and pinched out some buds recently after many months of growth (not as much as I would have hoped).

I'm keen to do something with it finally after all the waiting, but perhaps I should just slow down a bit for now. I'm sure it needs repotting as the roots are beginning to circle the inner part of the pot.

Anyway, this thread was about soil, so I should say that it makes sense to me what has been said about not being able to nail down one specific way to proceed, in terms of the organic/inorganic debate, due to all the variables involved. I think the aesthetic of inorganic and the various 'looks' that can be achieved is maybe influencing my decison-making.
