Anybody know a good brand or source of cat litter for soil? I saw a recipe from the UK that used a specific type but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the USA

I think you are looking for high fired calcined clay, which sounds more impressive than cat litter. Also, it doesn't have to be cat litter.
This should work (but do note there are different opinions about using it, some are very much against it, some very much in favor).

I use Napa floor dry #8822 which is diatomaceous earth. I have great success with it.
