Question about watering nursery soil was created by Oaky Doaky

Got a question about watering organic nursery stock soil. Yes, I’ve read the watering and other articles as well as other online resources but there’s no clear answer on how to treat it.

I know how to water inorganic bonsai soil (water when needed/when the surface is mostly dry), but I’m confused if I should treat organic nursery soil in purchased stock the same way. It is all organic, decomposed pine bark and peat. Obviously, it holds more moisture for longer, but should the same watering guidelines be used?

Thanks!

For plants in organic soil, I use a soil moisture meter. Quite inexensive and good to have gadget. I water when the meter shows in the border between moist and dry. Azaleas and maples a little higher.

It depends on so many factors, the tree species, your growing conditions, season, Quality of the soil etc. But you will learn with experience.
