Good evening. ??
I have 2 bonsai trees. One is a Fig called Bilbo and the other is an Oak called Odin. I am aware that it is weird to name things, but many years ago I read that if you name something, you’re more likely to take good care of it. ??
My Bilbo is 10 years old and thriving. Odin is 8 years old, and doing ok I think.
I am considering repotting them as I feel they’re being a little squeezed. What do you think??
I am also concerned about watering. I always make sure that the soil is nice and moist, but mould seems to be thriving. I’m assuming it’s not going to do any harm??
I keep my trees inside as I have nowhere to put them outside. Maybe there just isn’t enough air circulating....
Could someone advise me on the best soils for my species of trees and the best natural fertilisers.
Bilbo is a little fuller now, as this photo is from July.
Thank you very much. ??

Oaks belong outdoors.

You are right. All trees belong outdoors in the right climate.

Absolutely. Just some species are more used to growing in an always warm climate, and thus deal better with it. And some will die in our climate due to frost and need to be kept inside.
For bonsai you need optimally healthy trees which you get by growing them under ideal climatic conditions. And pretty much all species that are native to temperate regions, have a very hard time indoors.

Well, I live in a very old cottage that is unbelievably drafty and is right next to a window which gets very cold. It gets a good feel of the temperatures outside. As I have no safe outside space, what would you suggest??
