Yeah I also rotate but I try not to do it very frequently. The watering depends on so many factors. As I see it he has the tree on a balcony just like me and that means the trees get less sun and less wind than the trees outside. When I go out of town I close the blinds on the balcony and they can survive for about 3 days. I also can use a humidifier and/or I have a rain machine for terrariums, I can also use that.
Of course it's better for someone to come and water them.
For example we have a tramway just outside the window and between the tracks there is a grass carpet that gets watered during the night and that raises the humidity like hell in the summer over night. (I will start the war against mosquitoes because of that pretty soon:) ... so yeah many factors.

Hey,

I just repoted the Privet, i attached some photos, i do not know if i did ok or not but i hope the tree makes a full recovery.
I will look for new growth in the following month or so, after that i will probably start fertilising.
I used 90% Akadama soil, and 10% a mix of red volcanic rock, pumice stone, zeolite.
I also trimmed some dead branches and used healing paste.
I am currently keeping the tree on my balcony, it gets good light for most of the day (untill ~ 16:00).

Any advices from here on out? Can i do anything to help the privet recover?
Should i keep it in shade for a period? water less?

Does it look ok?
I added several pictures including one of the tree with the roots untangled and without the big ball of mud.

Thanks

Yes, when just repotted, you go and try to keep the tree on the shade for a couple of weeks or maybe even a month period. Other than that, yes water as usual or as needed by the tree.

I moved it to a lower place in the balcony and it should get less light.
Aside from new leaves growing how can i know if the tree is doing well?
Or are there any symptoms that let me know the tree is going to die? I would at least like to save a sapling from it if it will not make it.

Thanks

Well, starting from the point of view, that there is people that use a 100% Akadama soil, using a 90% doesn?t seem so weird to me. That said, for me Akadama is not the best of soils to be used alone as a substrate in my opinion. As an aggregate of a soil mix, yes I might use it, but not in such a high proportion.

Akadama has been largely discussed in this forum and in real life 名媛直播 conversations. People simply don?t seem to reach middle ground when talking about Akadama or soil mixes, for that matter. Also, there is something that draws my interest out of Akadama... The price... Way to expensive and in my eyes, it does not compensates with out of this world benefits when compared with other cheaper aggregates of any standard soil mix.

Yes, let your tree alone for a while, let it recover. Place it in a shaded position for a couple of weeks, maybe a month, and water as needed. Just don?t let the substrate get to a "bone dry" state.

Well, considering that this is probably your first transplant it does not look that bad. By the way... Did you fix the tree to the pot using some wires?

@spacewood: i used 90% Akadama because i need to try a lot of different types of soil in order to find the one that fits the area i`m from best. I started with Akadama but i will probably try a lot more before i get to a soil that fits all the needed requirement.

As an update, the privet was looking good last night but right now it looks as in the attached pictures.
Some of the leaves just withered and i do not know what i can do.
The soil is still moist and does not seem to need watering.

Should i pulverize the leaves with water?

Thanks

You should remember Akadama disintegrates with time and turns into "mud" with time so once every 2-3 years repot will be required.

I know it does turn into mud, i will repot it in ~ 2 years or earlier if i see the soil is keeping to much water.

Since i only have one tree to tend to, i think i will have a lot of time to take care of it. If things go well i might buy some other trees. Another idea would be to harvesting them or grow them from cuttings since i do not know of any bonsai nurseries in Bucharest.

At the moment i do not know if i should be removing some of the leaves so that the tree can recover. As i understand after repotting trees tend to not be able hold a lot of water and lose it through the leaves.
Any suggestions? Should i be worried?

Dont wait. Get as much training material as you can. Experience is vital and it goes trough training.

Dont look at these trees like pets, like "my one and only"... its only material to work with at the end... material that we all love ; )
