Posted 7 years 4 weeks ago #39457Harvesting is a little harder as i need to first get permission, i have some privets in the garden of my block but they have large leaves and i do not know if they make for good training material. Apart from cuttings, seeds and harvesting, i do not know how i could get good training trees as the ones sold as bonsai here are cuttings already grown in bonsai pots and grafting.
I will post on the forum when i manage to get some new training trees.
I do not look at them as pets, but taking one at a time gives me time to adjust to certain things i need to do in order to get things right.
Thanks for the advice

Posted 7 years 3 weeks ago #39459Getting a little worried about how my privet is doing. What should i do?
I just watered it and hope it can recover.
The leaves are withered but are not currently falling off.
Should i prune most of the leaves off? They are not dried up, just seem plum and do not have any vigor in them.

Posted 7 years 3 weeks ago #39464Feels like a repotting that was done late and/or too much roots taken off.

Posted 7 years 3 weeks ago #39467I know a very responsible young man, now 22 or so, who has been coming over for years to feed the fish and water the trees. I haven't lost a fish or a tree.
Here it is almost water every day and only March. Every day it doesn't rain. I need him.

Posted 7 years 3 weeks ago #39468I just got it indoors to take the pictures, i keep it in my balcony, it has good airflow and decent lighting. The tree is currently situated in a corner where light does not get in directly.
I do not think i pruned a lot of the roots, it just had a lot of tangled feeding roots that got ripped when untangling the roots. It lacked thick roots, i cut down a root that was very soft (root rot i think), think i got it all.
I had to repot because the pot was not draining and has sitting water in it. Also the soil was getting very dry at the top and was very moist at the bottom. I waited until the tree was doing better, and had new growth.
Thanks.

Posted 7 years 3 weeks ago #39477Unless it's a Ficus and you are trying to develop aerial roots.leatherback wrote: You do not want the plant to get used to high humidity
BTW, isn't this "plant in a bag" a good recipe for fungus? Warm, humid and no air movement... I wonder.

Posted 7 years 3 weeks ago #39478Yes. Which is why.. out of the bag at night and when it is cooler. This really is just emergency help, not a standard situation.Clicio wrote: BTW, isn't this "plant in a bag" a good recipe for fungus? Warm, humid and no air movement... I wonder.

Posted 7 years 3 weeks ago #39482I was thinking of letting the tree without the bag on tomorrow to see if it can stay healthy on his own.
Feeding roots should soon be developed enough to keep the tree healthy.
If not I will look into what alternatives i have, maybe using some rooting hormone, don't know if that would be a good idea.
Thanks again for the advice.
